Infeed Conveyor Rebuild for a Metal Recycler

How an on-site structural rebuild and new steel belt extended the life of a Hustler infeed conveyor

Conveyor rebuild with new steel belt by HMS baler infeed conveyor service by hms infeed conveyor for baler hustler conveyor for baler hustler infeed conveyor

Project Overview

Hoosier Machinery Solutions completed a full on-site conveyor rebuild on a Hustler infeed conveyor for a metal recycling facility, extending the life of a conveyor that structural damage was threatening to take out of service. HMS handled the project end to end, from the initial inspection through the rebuild and final testing.

This is a repeat HMS customer whose balers and conveyors we have serviced before. When structural issues developed in the conveyor frame and steel belt and began cutting into production, they called HMS. Rather than defaulting to a replacement, HMS performed an on-site inspection to assess the damage, then came back with a plan and a quote to completely rebuild the conveyor and extend its working life.

The rebuild was comprehensive. HMS crews removed the existing steel belt, cut out and removed all of the outside rails, top and bottom on both sides, and welded new rails in place. The middle impact strips came out and were replaced with new, and the bottom skirting was cut off and replaced along both sides of the conveyor. New bearings and sprockets went in on both the head and tail shafts. With the structure restored, HMS installed a new 60-inch wide steel belt, then tested it.

The job was completed within the specified timeline, and the customer has been back up and running since. Instead of the cost and lead time of a new conveyor, they got a structurally sound rebuild that put the machine back to work.

Service and Support from HMS

A structurally tired conveyor does not always mean a new purchase. Hoosier Machinery Solutions inspects first, then gives you a straight answer on whether a rebuild will genuinely extend the machine’s life, and our own crews self-perform the structural work, from rails and skirting to shafts, bearings, and steel belts. When a conveyor is past the point of a smart rebuild, HMS can also supply refurbished conveyors from our inventory or new conveyors matched to your line. Either way, you get an honest recommendation and one team handling the whole job.
