If you are searching for used balers for sale in Indiana, HMS is based in Wanatah, Indiana and refurbishes, sells, delivers, and services recycling equipment across the Midwest and North America. Inventory changes regularly – call if you do not see what you need.
Who We Are and Why It Matters for Indiana Buyers
HMS has been selling, installing, and servicing recycling equipment across North America since 2004. Our used equipment inventory works three ways.
Refurbished and rebuilt machines are equipment we purchased, brought to our Wanatah, IN facility, and put through a full in-house rebuild – hydraulics serviced, wire tier rebuilt or replaced, controls upgraded to new PLC and touchscreen, floor assessed and relined, and tested before shipping. These machines carry a limited dealer warranty and are the most thoroughly prepared equipment we sell.
As-is inventory is equipment we purchased and hold at our Wanatah facility, sold in its current condition without a full rebuild. We know these machines – we have inspected them and represent their condition accurately. A pre-purchase inspection is always recommended.
Brokered machines are equipment we source on behalf of a buyer without bringing the machine through our shop. Before HMS brokers anything, we do our due diligence – researching the machine’s history, verifying specs, and vetting the seller. We never call a brokered machine refurbished.
Broker listing platforms play a real role in this market – they give buyers access to a wider pool of machines than any single dealer could carry. The difference with HMS is that when we are involved in any transaction, we have done our homework, we are honest about what you are buying, and we are still here after the sale.
For Indiana buyers: you can come see machines at our Wanatah facility whether refurbished or as-is. Delivery and installation handled in-house – we are in northwest Indiana within a few hours of most of the state as well as Illinois, Michigan, Kentucky, and Ohio. Service after the sale is real whether you bought refurbished, as-is, or brokered. HMS serves Indiana as its primary market.
What We Typically Carry in Stock
Two-ram balers
Two-ram balers are our most requested used machine. We regularly carry Harris, Excel, Marathon, and IPS two-ram units – narrow-body and wide-body, 75 HP to 200+ HP, main cylinder bores 9 to 16 inches. Common brands: Harris, Excel, Marathon, Mosley, IPS. Typical price range: $125,000 to $400,000 refurbished. Lead time: 12 to 16 weeks from purchase to installation. All refurbished units go through our Wanatah shop before shipping.
Horizontal auto-tie balers
Common brands: Harris, Balemaster, American Baler, IPS. Typical price range: $95,000 to $125,000 refurbished. Best for DCs and warehouses generating 8 to 40+ tons of OCC per day.
Horizontal manual-tie balers
Typical price range: $65,000 to $90,000 refurbished. Best for operations generating 3 to 10 tons per day with available labor for tying. Good option for operations growing into a larger machine.
How HMS Refurbishes Used Equipment
HMS uses refurbished to describe a machine that went through our Wanatah shop, was torn down and assessed, had components replaced as needed, and was tested before it left. Every HMS refurbished machine includes: full teardown and inspection of all structural, hydraulic, electrical, and controls components with documentation. Hydraulic system service including cylinder repacking or replacement, new hoses, fittings, and filters, fluid change, and system pressure testing. Wire tier rebuild or replacement tested through multiple cycles. Controls upgrade to new PLC and touchscreen with laser travel sensors. Floor and liner assessment and reline. Full break-in period before prepping, painting, and shipping.
When HMS lists a machine as refurbished or rebuilt, that work happened in-house at our Wanatah, IN shop by our own technicians, documented, and backed by a real dealer warranty. When we broker a machine, we tell you that upfront, represent the condition accurately, and recommend a pre-purchase inspection. Ask any seller the same questions: what was done to this machine, who did the work, and what does the warranty cover?
Delivery and Installation in Indiana
HMS delivers and installs using our own team. Single point of accountability – the same company that sold the machine installs it. Being based in northwest Indiana means faster scheduling than dealers shipping from the East or West Coast. We commission the equipment, test under actual operating conditions, and train operators before considering the job done. Conveyor integration available if needed. We regularly serve Lake and Porter counties, Indianapolis, Fort Wayne, South Bend, Evansville, and everywhere in between.
What Indiana Buyers Are Typically Looking For
Distribution centers and warehouses: Indiana’s logistics corridor along I-65, I-70, and I-94 has dense concentration of DCs generating significant OCC daily. Most looking for horizontal auto-tie or large vertical balers. Recycling facilities and MRFs: two-ram balers dominate – the main gatherer cylinder and bale separation door handle mixed material streams efficiently. Manufacturers and industrial operations: automotive, steel, food processing, packaging generating various recyclable waste streams – HMS has placed equipment in automotive plants, corrugated facilities, and light industrial operations throughout Indiana. Box plants and paper mills: northwest Indiana concentration of box manufacturing and printing operations generating consistent OCC trim and broke for horizontal auto-tie balers.
Refurbished, As-Is, or Brokered: Which Makes Sense for Your Indiana Purchase
HMS refurbished: at Wanatah facility, higher price reflecting rebuild work, limited dealer warranty, low near-term repair risk, 12 to 16 week lead time, for operations needing reliability and warranty coverage. HMS as-is inventory: at Wanatah facility, mid-range price for known condition without rebuild, no warranty, known condition accurately represented by HMS, can move quickly, for buyers who want to inspect in person with service capability. HMS brokered: at seller’s location, price varies, no warranty, HMS does due diligence with inspection recommended, timeline depends on seller, for buyers sourcing a specific machine not in current inventory.
